Tomorrow, Tuesday 19/02/19, ISS is launching the Cialfo career and university guidance platform as a part of our comprehensive School Counseling program. Students in years 9-12 will log into the platform and be given a tour and instruction on how to use the platform. Cialfo will allow the students to learn more about careers and universities as well as help them manage the university application process. I am excited to bring this to ISS students and help them get a better grasp of where they are headed after ISS.
Tomorrow we will start with Year 11, then Year 12 on Wednesday, Year 10 on Thursday and finally Year 9 on Friday. Each student is asked to bring their own lap top but if a student doesn't have one they are able to use a computer in the computer lab where the training sessions will be held. Each student has been sent a link to register on the platform to be prepared for the training and tours starting tomorrow. To learn more about Cialfo go to https://cialfo.co/
Today was the last day of International School Counseling Week. The theme for the week was Celebrate! Each day the students and staff were given different topics to celebrate. Monday, students and staff were asked to celebrate themselves by acknowledging the things that make them great. Tuesday, they were asked to celebrate personal growth. Wednesday, we celebrated friendship. Thursday, we celebrated success and today, Friday, we celebrated the beauty of life. Students and staff were given information on mindfulness and how to fully experience and enjoy what life has to offer. Below is the video provided to students and staff today. Ask your student what they've learned about themselves as we celebrated International School Counseling Week. This week has been great helping the staff and students of ISS celebrate who they are and hopefully adding to the ISS community through the School Counseling Program.
The School Counseling Program is seeking parents who are willing to volunteer one lunch hour to present on their chosen career field to help inspire and guide the students of ISS in choosing potential career paths. Please complete the below form if you are interested in volunteering your time. Vinaka!
Group Counseling allows the School Counselor to serve a larger number of students who need support in the same areas. Group Counseling is a part of a Comprehensive School Counseling Program built to assist ALL students instead of a small few.
Information about Group Sessions sign up has been sent out via email directly to parents, students, and teachers. If you feel that your student will benefit from working on study skills, stress management, self esteem, or transitioning into ISS please go to https://goo.gl/forms/aVViDEQuvWCMFut03 to sign up. Group sessions are fun and interactive in order to keep students engaged while teaching them the strategies they need to be successful! Welcome to School Year 2019. A new school year brings excitement and anxiety. Students are excited to reconnect with friends but hold anxiety about the challenges ahead. As an international school we not only cope with transitioning to a new year level but sometimes transitioning to a new country, new environment and new culture.
Due to all the change and upheaval students need support from their teachers and family. In order to support your students transition tune in to their emotions. Ask your student about their day. Don't simply ask "how was your day". You'll simply get the standard "fine" as a response. Ask them specific questions such as "What was the best part of your day?"; "What was the worst part of your day?" This will allow them to process their day and then provide a thoughtful response. I also recommend taking the time to introduce yourself to your students' teachers; open up the lines of communication. Communication is key to staying in tune with your students' academic progress. If the lines of communication are open then you can head off academic stressors and provide support when needed. Also feel free to reach out to the School Counselor. The School Counselor assists all students at ISS. If you'd like your student to brush up on study skills or time management connect with the counselor to discuss strategies. If the break was difficult for your student and you as the parent feel that student could use some additional support at the start of the year then discuss this with the School Counselor. These recommendations will set your student up for success as they transition in to a new school year. If you need more information or have any questions don't hesitate to reach out to me. Vinaka!
